HEALTH DATA MAPPING WORKSHOP MATERIALS

The learning materials below were prepared for participants in our Health Data Mapping Virtual Workshop. The materials provide an introduction to mapping health data and assume no previous knowledge of any GIS software. To use these materials, you will need to have the free GIS software, QGIS, installed on your computer. The guide included in the learning materials instructs how to obtain and install this software.

Administrative Area 2 estimates

DHS Program surveys generally provide estimates for indicators at the national and first subnational administrative level (Admin 1), often referred to as provinces or regions. Estimates at the Admin 1 level can obscure variation that exists at the smaller second subnational administrative level (Admin 2), often referred to as districts or municipalities. The DHS Program uses machine learning and geospatial modeling methods to produce indicator estimates for selected indicators at the Admin 2 level. Each download package contains a table of the indicator and uncertainty estimates, a shapefile with the indicator and uncertainty estimates, the raster modeled surface for each indicator, and documentation including a PDF report if available.
